On Friday, April 22, 2016, Motionball will be hosting their Ignite Gala, bringing together more than 1,000 young professionals to Calgary’s TELUS Spark science museum to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics in Alberta and Canada. IGNITE will feature an immersive multi-sensory show, dance performances, music from local DJ Joe Swell, a silent auction, a raffle for a trip for two anywhere in the world compliments of Air Canada, and let’s not forget, a complimentary bar for the evening. Beyond the celebration, the theme will focus on how sport and Special Olympics has ignited the passion of athletes.
Now that you’ve got an amazing event to attend, you’re wondering what to wear that supports a classy, formal dress code with a fiery theme. Let me use my superpower to assist with that. This is a distinct, bold theme so let’s get unique and fabulously daring with our outfits!
The Maxi Dresses
These are absolutely gorgeous, floor-length dresses that can be worn beyond one gala evening. Wedding season is rapidly approaching and let me guess, you have nothing to wear to your cousin’s nuptials as well?! Well, ignite theme to the rescue. This jaw-dropping floral chiffon halter gown has all of the colours of a good bonfire and once you get moving on the dance floor, with the flow of this dress, you might actually look like you’re on fire…especially if your dance moves are anything like mine. (Jokes! The only thing that can take credit for my fabulous dancing is tequila.)
If pretty petals aren’t your shtick, be daring with a dress such as this rouge open ruffle back gown. It’s classy, timeless and will be sure to have all of the gentlefolk asking to buy you a drink. Even if they are free, who doesn’t love the compliment?!
How versatile and adorable is this little ditty? You’re purchasing this as one but you’re really getting two. Who doesn’t love a twofer?! Side note, the noun ‘twofer’ is actually in the dictionary now. Who knew?!
This ensemble is flowy, sexy and you can wear the top with other pant, skit or short combos. The skirt can be worn with alternative tops and even layered with other necklaces to top it off. This is really a threefer but since that’s not a real word, just know, you’ve got options!
The Fierce Yellow Dresses You Could Wear All the Time But Probably Wouldn’t Think of Buying
I feel like yellow is a colour in fashion that is discriminated against. You don’t see it a lot in stores, on the runway or even on Pinterest. I personally can’t pull it off with my pasty-ass skin tone but I’m certain you can rock it!
I don’t know if I would classify these dresses as yellow per say, maybe mustard or marigold. Either way, these dresses are the colour of the heart of a fire and can totally be put on repeat! Buy, rock, repeat. My favourite mantra!
The Cocktail Dress
You might not be Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire, but your underarms will sure be on fire after a night of dancing in a sequin dress. Do NOT be deterred by that though! Sequin uniforms are my fave even though they bite. They are a crowd pleaser and a great conversation starter.
If I’ve scared you too much and turned you completely off of sequins, choose something a little less chaffing and a little more polyester. Either or, these cocktail dresses are a sure fire way to rock the night away.
The LBD, LBJ and Red Romper
LBD = little black dress, LBJ = little black jumpsuit, red romper = pure sass.
I want to give you all an alternative to the bright, autumnal colors that this theme represents. And let’s be realistic, black is the easiest shade of the rainbow to wear. However, this LBD still has some spirit in it. It actually looks like you were sitting too close to a fire and the embers jumped out and fashioned this eye-catching laser-cut pattern on the hem. In a super stylish way, of course.
These. Jumpsuits. Though. Yes they make going to the ladies room a bit more challenging, however; as an advocate of pants being overrated, I do love jumpsuits! You’re still dressed like a classy bae but if the moment strikes and you feel like busting out the splits on the middle of the d-flo, you can, all while keeping your Britney covered. Amazing concept, I know. You’re welcome.
I would also like to add that if you are the lucky recipient of the Air Canada raffle, the LBD, LBJ and red romper outfits should be in your suitcase. They would look fabulous with a tropical backdrop in the Caribbean. (Clearly I need a vacation and you know where I want to go).
The Skirt and Blouse Combo That You Could Wear Again and Again
Feel like proceeding with caution and having a more business formal approach to your evening? Then say yes to this skirt and blouse combo.
The red piping on the blouse and the fringe on the skirt say, ‘fire’ while the white collar and black vegan leather say, ‘I can only party after business hours’. You’ll be sorry, not sorry in these threads especially on Monday morning. I guarantee this outfit does NOT scream walk-of-shame. (Insert cunning emoji here)
